A Justice of the Peace has considerable power and a significant role to play in the criminal justice system. As a voter, a taxpayer, and a citizen you should know what to expect of your Justice of the Peace before casting your vote.
All judges, including Justices of the Peace, have duties and responsibilities spelled out under Nevada State Law and the Nevada Judicial Canons. But what else can we expect?
Chris Lee draws upon his legal expertise as a former prosecutor and Deputy District Attorney and current Deputy Secretary of State for Southern Nevada. He also draws upon his lifetime experience growing up in Southern Nevada, the examples set by his family, and the expectations of his friends, North Las Vegas neighbors and fellow volunteers in our community. That background guides Chris Lee in his own personal Code of Conduct...
Chris’s parents were respected professionals who emigrated to the United States when Chris was two years old. Unable to immediately resume their professions, they took any job they could find—busboy, keno runner, anything—and found dignity in hard work and making their own way. They sacrificed so their two sons could attend parochial school. Chris and his brother matched that by earning their bachelor’s and law degrees. Chris Lee knows the value of hard work, and he will work hard for us.
Chris was taught the importance of respect for every person. Those who know him at all will tell you that he practices that principal with everyone he deals with. Victims of crime, witnesses before the court know first-hand that Chris Lee treats all people with respect.
Chris Lee has compiled an already impressive record in his life, yet a tradition of humility keeps Chris well-grounded. As a scholar and athlete, as a Deputy District Attorney, Chris Lee is able to remember who he is, where he came from, and what is truly important in life.
Chris believes being a judge is more than a 9-to5 job. As a prosecutor and Deputy District attorney, Chris knows our police often need search warrants late at night or on weekends, and he pledges to be available to review and execute those warrants. And Chris believes a North Las Vegas Justice of the Peace needs to be part of the North Las Vegas community. Chris already volunteers in activities, and he supports the idea of judges speaking in our schools, hosting events, and getting behind our community projects.
Chris Lee watched his family struggle, scrimp, save and treat that experience as an opportunity. He understands how fortunate he—and all of us are—to be Americans. And Chris believes our rights and opportunities come with obligations. As a prosecutor, as a husband, as a volunteer in North Las Vegas and the Southern Nevada community, and now as a candidate for Justice of the Peace Chris Lee believes in meeting his obligations.
